There are 6 comments on New Immigration Ban Leaves Students Untouched

  1. I am not sure about the full accuracy of this article. Please further review your article as F-1 Visas, in many cases, may in actuality be banned in a sketchy type of way:

“Unfortunately, the US embassies in Germany cancelled all visa appointments until the 30th of September 2020. As of today later appointments starting from October on can not be booked yet.

The US embassies in most other European countries cancelled the visa appointments until 15th of July and we expect a similar situation as in Germany, meaning cancellations until the end of September.
But at this point in Austria, Switzerland, France appointments from mid July on have not been cancelled.

We assume the cancellations are based on the current travel ban from European countries into the US.” (Student-Athlete agent in Europe)

Currently, Norway is not allowing embassy appointments which means no students.

Currently, the same in Switzerland. We may have not banned F1 visas but if embassy appointments are being cancelled everywhere, we might as well have. Please also note that many of these European countries amongst other countries cannot travel to the United States. They would have to go somewhere else for many days and then travel to the US. This certainly seems like a ban on F-1 Visa student and student athletes.

If this doesn’t change soon, a good majority of European student and student athletes could have trouble getting into the United States. I have spoke with many from Paraguay as well and this is a major problem that isn’t being addressed. It’s not just Europe.

Please review all of this because as of now, a great many international F-1 Visa students from other countries will not be investing in United States Universities. This will be a huge detriment to the US on so many levels, including, a loss of a great deal of revenue. We are currently the highest in Covid cases in the world. With that, I can”t see the full logic in using Covid as a reason to ban, slow, or deceptively cancel F-1 student visas.

    1. Hi Alex, Is this still true? do student-athletes back in their country (in Europe) have to go to a third country in order to enter the US?

  2. Even if you are from the Schengen zone or the UK and have an F-1 Visa the only way you can return the US at the moment should you have returned home is via a third country and you will have to stay there 14 days.

  3. Dear Sir,

I am writing to you regarding the recent National Interest Exceptions for Certain travelers from the Schengen Area published by the U.S. Department of State on July 16th allowing F1 holders students from the Schengen area to reenter the US despite the current travel ban.

I wanted to know if the statement would also allow F1 Visa holders with OPT to reenter the US and not only F1 visa holders without OPT.
I am currently a French person living in the US with a F1 visa with OPT.

I recently graduated in March 2020 and am now using my OPT since May 2020. I am considering flying to Europe and would like to know if I will be able to reenter the US with the current National Interest Exceptions from the U.S. Department of State despite the current executive travel ban order still in place.

Thanks a lot for your help
